Motto before every industry icon

The full loop for the HoloMotion display at the Open Day of FIT CTU in Prague. The motto "FIT – the way to all industries" is repeated before each of the 11 industry icons, so the main message comes back every few seconds.

Why the videos were made

At the Open Day the faculty presents itself to future students. The HoloMotion display stands where visitors pass by, so the animation has to catch the eye in a moment and say the most important thing at once: studying informatics at FIT is the way to any industry, not only to an IT company.

HoloMotion

The display draws video with rotating arms carrying LED strips. Where the picture is black, the LEDs are off and the viewer sees through the display, so the objects seem to hang in the air like a hologram. The animations are designed for it:

square video 1080 × 1080 (the shape of the rotating disc), 24 fps,
black background, white as the main colour and the FIT orange (#f0ab00) as the accent – the brighter a point, the better it is visible,
strong 3D: objects turn, gain depth and the camera flies through them, which looks impressive on a display hanging in space,
the Technika font of the CTU visual style.

Main ideas

The motto FIT – cestou do všech odvětví (FIT – the way to all industries) is the main message. It is shown literally as a road and a crossroads leading in many directions.
The industries are shown by 11 icons: banking, automotive, telecommunications, manufacturing, ecology, energy, astronomy, healthcare, agriculture, multimedia and construction. Each icon stands for a whole group of fields named under it.
The unifying element of all parts is the underscore _, a symbol of programming. Every part starts with a blinking cursor (a beginning, expectation) and the shapes grow out of it.
The video is a loop within a loop:

With about 12 seconds for the motto and for an icon, the whole loop takes about 4½ minutes, while the motto comes back every 24 seconds and reaches even a random passer-by. Icons can be added, removed or reordered at will:

The rhythm of the animation follows the music: one short sting for the motto and another for the icons, from the YouTube Audio Library.
