Electromobility is becoming a reality, but most people have no garage. SmartPlan predicts the demand for charging and designs where, when and with which business model a city should build public charging stations. Czech voice-over.

Main ideas

We have the know-how to build the charging infrastructure for electric cars efficiently.

1. About ⅔ of people park their cars on the street (in public space) and 85 % of charging happens at home. That means a huge demand for public charging infrastructure.
2. Where should the charging infrastructure be built? Analyses, calculations and designs, combined with the capacity of the power grid and plans for its extension.
3. Why will the “invisible hand” of the market not solve it? A badly placed charging station costs half a million CZK.

Planning goes in four layers: the city without infrastructure; an analysis of population density, type of buildings and demography to quantify and locate the future demand; confronting the demand with the existing infrastructure; and a design of where, when and with which business model to build the charging stations.

Script

The animation is told from the driver’s point of view, with a game-like panel showing his happiness and his charging stress.

1. Electromobility is becoming a reality (10 s)
   • I come to a building with the sign Company and walk through the automatic door
   • a game panel slides down: happiness 100 %, stress 0 %
   • on the desk there are the keys to a new car and a chart of the growing number of electric cars
   • zoom on the keys (they shine), I take them, happiness 120 %
   • I sit behind the wheel and drive out of the garage
2. Availability of charging (20 s)
   • I drive along the road past billboards with information (85 % of charging at home, ⅔ of people without a garage)
   • the charging indicator on the dashboard starts blinking, happiness drops, stress rises, the charging stress indicator lights up
   • the skyline of a city with the SmartPlan logo emerges in the distance, the stress drops a little
   • I arrive at a public charging station, stress 0 %, happiness 100 %
   • a bubble with the SmartPlan logo grows above my head
3. Effective placement of charging stations (20 s)
   • a map of the city is drawn, its districts are lightly coloured
   • a heat map shows where charging will be needed
   • the power grid grows over it and charging stations appear where the grid reaches the most needed districts
   • the map lays down and its layers separate while charging stations keep appearing
4. Experience from almost 100 European cities (5 s + 5 s logo)
   • the layers join again, the city map gets simpler and smaller and lines lead from it to other cities
   • a map of Europe is drawn around, the lines multiply
   • the map forms the base of the logo, a tree, columns and a rainbow grow out of it

Voice-over

Electromobility is undoubtedly becoming a reality and its expansion will reach a significant number of people in the Czech Republic, especially users of company cars.

An important factor for trouble-free use of an electric car is the availability of charging. 85 % of charging takes place when the car is parked at home. In the Czech Republic almost ⅔ of people do not own a garage or a covered parking space, so they will have to use a public charging station prepared by the city.

Effective placement of charging stations – their number and location – can contribute to the satisfaction of new electric car drivers and save public budgets. Based on a prediction of the demand for charging, SmartPlan designs a suitable placement of charging stations in the city, including the operating model and a time schedule.
